Tumaini Church is a small community of believers in Nairobi’s Kibera Slum, the largest slum in East Africa.

The church, led by Pastor Fred Faradays, also runs an elementary school for more than 200 local children, called The Hope Academy. Because of The Hope Academy, these children (most of whom come from families earning an average of $1 a day) are receiving an education that will help them break the cycle of poverty in their lives. They also receive a hot meal every day.

After spending much time over the years with Tumaini Church, World Next Door and its readers began working to help support the building of new classrooms, latrines and a sanctuary at the Hope Academy in 2011. You can read more about our time with Tumaini Church and Pastor Fred in our articles below.

To empower the youth and families of Kibera Slum to discover their worth and break the cycle of poverty.
