I’m not going to lie.  I am pumped up right now.  For the last three weeks I’ve watched as World Next Door has grown and expanded like never before.  You see, we have a brand new staff member!  And she rocks.

Her name is Kelly Voight.  Her job is Communications Coordinator.  And I… have really dropped the ball in waiting this long to announce this…

But no matter!  I’m announcing it now.

Kelly, whose most recent job was in Social Media Strategies for the NCAA, is bringing a whole new level of energy to our ministry.  She is stepping in as the Senior Editor for our online magazine, taking over our social media presence and developing a much more intentional communications strategy for our organization.

Now that she’s on the team, you can expect our articles to get more consistent and diverse, you can expect our presence on Twitter and Facebook to get even more interactive and you can expect the ministry to grow deeper as I am freed up to focus on our longer-term development needs.

On the horizon

One of the most exciting new things brewing is a pilot project to enhance the format of our online magazine.

Kelly Voight, World Next Door’s new Communications Coordinator.

With Kelly working behind the scenes to plan, structure and organize our online content, we’re going to try doing a lot more short subject pieces: quick videos, 300 word snapshot articles, photos of the week, etc.  All of these will be interspersed among our usual articles, travel journals, culture guides and photo galleries to make our website even more engaging!

Additionally, we’re going to be testing a new weekly “digest” format for our email subscriptions.  Rather than having your email inbox flooded with updates every day, you’ll now be getting one email that captures all the must-see content from the previous week (click here to sign up for email updates if you haven’t already).

An Exciting Time

Anyway, yeah. If you can’t tell, I’m pumped.  I am thrilled to see how God uses Kelly to take World Next Door to the next level.

And now, I am off to Penelakut Island to write for the first time about First Nations (Native American) issues.  I don’t know quite what to expect, but it will definitely be interesting!

Stay tuned…
