This is refreshing to read after hearing one of my relatives whine about how "obamacare" has stolen his American dream.

Barry, I really love your work. You are very gifted for your chosen field. With all the injustices that are evident in Angel's story, you missed a key component. God is working here to provide for Angel what he could not get in other parts of the world. Facts which you bring to light on a regular basis.
We need to continue to work to correct injustice wherever it happens; but America has been a blessing to Angel, even with its inequities. Here he has resources to help him through the difficulties; elsewhere, he would be left to fend for himself. The system is broken and needs fixing; but his life here is still much better than the vast majority of Hondurans. You and I have both seen the poverty they are subject to. Yet Angel is a prime example of the hope they find through Christ. They are some of the poorest yet are also some of the hardest working, efficient and hopeful people I have had the privilege to work alongside. Angel is happy because he recognizes the riches God has blessed him with. If we Americans, could be more like him,
we would grumble less and praise God more.

One thing I was thinking about while reading about Angel was how unfair the laws in this country are for who gets to be a doctor or lesser medical worker. Instead of Angel being able to take a test and prove that he has what it takes, it would take $10,000 for unfair immigration laws and many times that for an American medical degree. We in America like licenses from the government because it falsely gives us confidence that someone is good enough to give us medical services. But yet all kinds of malpractice and bad things still happen. Just a thought, but maybe it's time to take our faith in the goodness of government and put it in good people like Angel.

So as the immigration and heath care debates rage on we can stop and thank God for Shepherd Community Center and Wishard Hospital. And we who care can once again decide what role we will take in creating a world of justice for Angel and his family.

I know I can do one small thing as a resident of Marion County. I can vote yes on November 3rd for a new Wishard Hospital to be built. www.WishardYes.org.

And another, I can support Shepherd Community.

And another, I can pray for Angel

Nothing like having a story hit you between the eyes. I had just been very depressed and angry with my situation. A job I hate, tough financial situations, life dreams slipping farther away, but I really do have a lot to be thankful for. Angel has less than I do, and has a much better attitude and outlook. I am so thankful for this story to show me there is hope out there, and God blesses us all the time in the little things.

Thanks so much for sharing this story, Barry. It is so important to put a face to the immigration debate.

Great writing!
